FORESTDALE WIN THE CUP! It was a day to remember for the boys and girls of Forestdale Salvation Army football team on Saturday March 29th when they lifted the South London Churches Junior Football Cup in the final at Barnet Wood Road, Orpington, against a strong Crystal Palace team. Forestdale United, made up of children from Years 5 and 6, were trailing 1-3 with five minutes left when a sweet left-foot drive made it 2-3. With one minute of normal time remaining, Forestdale equalised from close range. The game went into extra time and Forestdale began to dominate before two more goals in the last six minutes wrapped up a fabulous 5-3 victory to lift the cup amidst scenes of great jubilation. The next morning, the team enjoyed a fun-filled Sports Sunday service at Forestdale Salvation Army Church, Courtwood School, Forestdale. Many thanks must go to Bruce and Kerry Weatherill and their army of helpers who now run two junior sides (the Foxes, who finished runners-up in the league, and the Scorpions) for boys and girls from Years 3 to 6. Games are played on Saturday mornings during the football season. For more information about Football for Fun and all the other activities which your local church offers, go to www.forestdale.org.uk
