There is currently a debate going on how the FRA should obtain their membership fees. These used to be collected door-to-door by a few volunteers - I've done it myself and it is considerable effort for the money raised. So what are the alternatives?
The suggestion being made is that Management Companies should pay en bloc for all their residents. To me, this smacks a bit like union's block membership in the Labour party of old and I think that the decision whether or not to join the FRA should be down to the individual. There is a form to pay subscription in every issue of 'Link' and in order to put my money where my mouth is, I have just completed mine and sent it off. I do not think many others do. Might be an idea to pay these by standing order. Some pay at the AGM though it has been suggested that this looks more like an entry fee to the AGM than a subscription.
Also I think, the FRA will have to tell Forestdale residents why it is worth subscribing or what they would do with the subscriptions raised - some sort of business plan. To some extent, I can also see that the Management Companies could contribute, for example to the cost of running Forestdale Forward (which benefits all residents) and the cost of maintaining certain areas which fell to the FRA when Wates withdrew - such as the estate sign and flowerbed at the Courtwood Lane entrance. Again it is a matter of working out a budget and then finding enough companies to support the idea. Need not be all but just one or two would not be fair either. Any other ideas?
