Another problem is that most CCTV only work reliably during daylight whilst most of the problems with car crime happen during the night. Improving lighting helps but is not bright enough for CCTV. If you are a member of Neighbourhood Watch, you can register to receive weekly crime reports for Heathfield ward by e-mail. Forestdale features most weeks once or twice, mostly theft of or from cars.

I would welcome the idea of CCTV for our garages. Last week my neighbour went to get her car out of her garage, only to find someone had put superglue in her locks. Needless to say, she had to call someone out to help her get into her garage, which cost her quite a bit of money. This happened in Sorrel Bank. A few years ago we all returned to find a substance like polyfiller squirted into our locks, luckily we could still use them.

Having looked around my own part of the estate, I have noticed that it may be possible to actually put a gate up at the entrance to some of the garage areas. This would make it less convenient for motorists and delivery vans coming onto the estate to turn around, but it may deter some of the criminals. There seems to have been another spate of break ins over the last few months.

I am new to Forestdale and would like to know which parts are experiencing the break ins.
Thanks

Hello Baxley and welcome to Forestdale. Unfortunately insecure garages and unattended vehicles will be always be easy targets for thieves.
We're not aware of any particular estate or road being targeted at the moment.
Further information can be obtained from the Heathfield Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) on croydonheathfield.snt@met.police.uk
Best regards Martin
