We received a flyer about some garage robberies that have apparently been going on.
Which part of Forestdale was affected by this and what are the crime rates like in the area, eg garage robberies, car theft /break ins and also robberies in flats?
It certainly feels like a fairly safe area.

I had my garage broken into last year. When the police arrived they informed me that 19 garages had been broken into over the same weekend around Inglewood, Middlefields and Ladygrove.
Their advice is to always lock your car when it is in your garage, even if your garage is secure and the obvious - to make sure that you have no valuables on show in your car or gargage.

Hi Amanda,
Thank you for the advice.
There must have been another round of these thefts fairly recently. The flyer advised people to get 'defender' locks for their garages. From your experience it looks like it's probably worth investigating.

Hi, i have a defender lock fitted on my garage and (touch wood) i haven't had any bother. my neighbour had his tools stolen from his garage. The problem is this garage doors have very poor security, even if you place a padlock on the centre where the lock is, thieves can gain access with a flat screwdriver.
not nice to hear i know,
There is a link on the homepage for a local garage security fitting service.

Our garage was broken into on Woodpecker Mount, which we found a bit strange as it is actually underground on block which meant the theives had to have jumped down about 20 feet or someone did properly lock the outer gates. They didn't get away with much but managed to further damage our garage door (which was already delapidated) and made a mess!
Our new garage outside on block is fitted with a new door. Fortunately the house crime rate round here is really really low! But as you have rightly pointed out there does appear to be a lot of garage block crime.

It's worth getting more than one quote for Garage Defenders - one of my neighbours paid £125, another £150. If you can convince one of your neighbours to have one put in at the same time, you might get it cheaper still.
In the latest round of break-ins, the culprits were said to be teenagers from outside the estate and they only took small, saleable things like tools and bikes. Cars were not damaged, in fact it was said that when they saw a car in the garage they went straight on to the next one. The standard door locks are no match to them, neither are bolts and padlocks. Garage defenders are or replace your door with one that has multiple locking points.

I being a new member, would just like to warn people that when you get your car out of you garage ,or putting it away, take the keys out of the ignition, because some orrible lad jumped into my car and stole it, driving off a speed, picked up a couple of his mates in addington and smashed the car front back and sides .I was one yard away pulling down the garage door to lock it . I stupidly reached into the car to take out the keys, but he drove off , leaving me with a verry bruised arm.

Hi, the garage security on the home page had a broken link (sorry for that). garage defenders are fitted from £110 plus there are extra locks you can fit too.
i recommend one of these locks because it makes the best deterrent, a big solid lock staring the theif in the eye as he walks past. he's sure to carry on walking.

Garage Defender Masters are £70 in B&Q and easy enough to fit yourself if you have a hammer drill (& a 16mm masonry bit). The more popular ordinary Garage Defenders are £50 from www.pjbsecurity.co.uk and probably other suppliers as well. I fitted mine after garages in Bowens Wood were broken into recently. Viv

Just like to say that very recently that a resident was woken up to find youngsters trying to take the lead off her roof! Also we had one of our drain covers, quite heavy, stolen in a garage area. I was absolutely stunned So look out for drain stealers! Marion

Just a thought, does anybody have any ideas on CCTV? Would this be viable to have implimented around garages and residents parking? or would the installation and maintenance cost be too great?
I have noticed signs up in some areas of the estate that indicate that a neighbourhood watch is in operation. How well is this working?

i'm not to sure on this subject but i'd imagine it would cost quite a bit and then someone has to monitor them too. it would be nice to have them making the area a lot safer but what is the actual crime figures for Forestdale? i know garages and cars get broken into but how frequent.
