I think the management at Somerfields need to open there eyes and see what they have done to their store. Everytime I go in there I end up waiting 10-15 minutes to be served and the staff can be quite rude too. If you use Somerfields you'll know what I mean about the queue. sometimes I think its worth the extra drive to sainsbury's

Its the Queue jumpers that P*ss me off... and thier arrogant attitude when confrounted.... the other day 5 people jumped to queue expending my while by almost 10 minutes... I only had 2 items and two of them had entire basket full's, luckily the regional managers were there and told me that they are sorting out the issue ASAP, and that they realised they had messed up, so kudos to them.

I'm afraid these problems are endemic to Somerfield. We have one near where I work and it is just as bad. No wonder they came last in the Which list of favorite places to shop.

Yes, that whole queueing system is strange... one queue for all tills, it must be the only supermarket in the world to do that. Even the branch in George Street, Croydon has long queues and never seem to have enough cashiers. Not a winning recipe if they want to become one of the supermarket giants.

I really don't understand why having one queue for all tills (if they are all open!) does not in fact mean that each customer is served in turn. It must save having to wonder which queue to join in order to reach the cashier first! I think that this is the system they use in Boots, the main Post Offices, Marks and Spencer, Woolworth and some others. The bit I find annoying is the pre-recorded tape in some of these stores announcing, 'Cashier Number 3' for example. At least Somerfield hasn't adopted this yet!

I noticed this too and don't understand it either. Before the refit, I barely ever had to queue and I was going in at the same times. To be honest I have put the extra queuing down to the fact that the store is so much nicer now that more people are using it! Surely a victim of it's own success!
Fortunately I have not experienced queue jumpers though....
Would be interesting to see what Somerfield do about the long waiting times though. I was in there yesterday morning and ALL the tills were being used and there were still at least 3 or 4 people in front of me queuing.

They seem to have got rid of the 'lone' till now which confuses everyone. There is always a queue regardless the amount of customers and staff.
Marks and Spencers over the road though is even worse. 1 on the tills, 5 chatting nearby and 12 in the queue.

i didn't understand the change either. surely having multiple small queues is less annoying that one big one that snakes around the shop.

The trouble with shops like Somerfield is that they have missed the point of that system. Every time I go into one of the small Tesco shops (who also use this system), as soon as it is busy, every single till is opened. That way, people can get served quickly rather than get irritated and leave the shop without spendeng.
