One night last week at around 9pm a salesman knocked on my door. He did not ring at the main entrance as he was already in the block (after somebody else let him in...).
This salesman was behaving very suspiciously by mentioning the little peep hole in the door and he was trying to peer into my flat while I was at the door as it was not open very wide.
He did not introduce himself, but asked me for my personal details ie, name, energy supplier and for a gas /electricity bill. When I asked him who he was and what he wanted, he was very reluctant to give me any information. Eventually he showed me his name card stating that he was from NPower.
I certainly did not sign up or hand over any details and have complained to NPower about the conduct of the salesman. In hindsight I should have just slammed the door in his face.
The worst scenario is that this could have been anybody looking for personal details or a flat worth breaking into.
How often do these people come around? Has anybody been pressured into buying a product in this way and regretted it afterwards?

Hi Tanya,
I live in Hartscroft I think I had exactly the same sales man I think just 2 weeks back, may be same time as you. Even I was a bit surprised. He was trying to pester with the same thing... electricity and gas..... however I do remember he mentioned he was from Scottish Energy and not from NPower if my memory goes back correctly, he did knock on the door and not ring the bell, I had some guests at my place so I said... leave me a number or I will go online and check... but instead he was being nosy and peeping through the gap in the door.... and did not leave his id card... May this calls for a secured entrance to avoid such sales man, although he could get pass this as you have mentioned...
Now I am 100% convinced he was not a genuine sales person...

After Getting NPower to investigate, it turns out that the guy who came to my flat, really does work for them... actually an agency that they use. The guy who came to your door may work for the same agency?
I think they train them up to make us nervous to try and force people into buying their products.
In any event it is very unsettling when strangers get past the buzzer downstairs and come knocking directly on doors.
