Just spotted two more new food places. There is a new Chinese takeaway which opened where the tile shop used to be at Crossways and there is a new fish and chip shop opened in the Selsdon high street (village fish and chips?) I haven't tried out either yet.

I've seen the chinese which i dont eat but i think i'll stick with mcdermotts chip shop. its easier to park and the chips are nice there. i've had chips from the high street before (not going to mention where from) and they were the worse chips i've ever had i couldnt eat them. but then i am a fussy eater lol

I agree, the fish and chips are great from McDermotts. They have won a few awards over the years but each award, recently at least, seems to be followed by a price rise.
That hasn't put me off too much yet though.

The Chinese is very good and all dishes freshly made. Prices are generally in keeping with most other Chinese Takeaways.

I've tried out the new Chinese takeaway and Bella Vita now. The Chinese was really good quality only the delivery driver hovvered outside my door for a few extra moments, don't think he was happy with my tip LOL
The Italian is wonderful and I heartily recommend it. Not only are the prices very reasonable but the portions were fantastic! I'm really pleased to have such a great Italian restaurant on my doorstep.

Shhhhhhhhhh.......The biggest and best kept secret for really really fabulous lunches, at an amazing price, in a really a top class environment, only minutes away from the estate is the set two or three course weekday lunches at "The Chateau" Restaurant - just down the hill from Royal Russell School. At only £13.50 for two courses we and our friends are still amazed that more retired residents, or mums with kids at school, or people taking time off work on the estate, dont treat themselves to this amazing deal at this fabulous local restaurant. Don't be intimidated by any outside look of " poshness " - they are really nice inside. We go for lunch normally at least once a month, shhhhhhhh sometimes more often. Free onsite parking or tram stop too !!

Oh yes mikelondon48 I can also recommend Le Chateau... because I was married there!! Wonderful food, wonderful service and like you say not pretentious at all. I would like to dine there again especially as the venue brings back such special memories for me.

No-one has mentioned 'Plant spice' right on our door step. The best indian restaurant around, and within walking distance. The Sunday Buffet is great value.
