All my family and friends who live in Forestdale have found that our Nat West debit cards have been cloned by a local retailer or cashpoint machine. Our cloned cards have been used in Australia, Canada and elsewhere. The only common place we ave all used inthe Esso garage and BP garage at Forestdale or perhaps the cashpoint outside Martins. Please call your bank and enquire via the bank's fraud department. It must be happening to lots of people!

I have e-mailed the problem to croydon police - no reply in a week. It's obviouskly happening to scores of people. The Natwest know about it too. I advise everyine to pay for things in cash, especially in Forestdale.

Somebody from my work has had something similar happen to her, but at the Somerfield near East Croydon Station (George Street). Apparently there have been regular transactions being charged by that branch to her card. She has reported it and apparently the supermarket are investigating.

I noticed recently that the cash machine had changed at Martins. Perhaps this is something to do with the fraud? Always check ATMs carefully and if they look like they have been tampered with then leave well alone. Especially look out for anything that looks like it has been attached to the ATM.

This is still happening. Two friends have had their cards cloned and I'm sure it doesn't stop there. Has anyone else any further news on this?

Yes - I can confirm that this has just happened to me. I got notified by Natwest on saturday morning, I have only used the card at the Esso station in Forestdale and Somerfield in Forestdale, both last week! This is a very real issue.......but Natwest were on the ball immediately!! They did not get away with any of my hard earned money. I will contact both Somerfield Head Office and Esso Head Office.

Just thought I would share my experience with you all. I rung Somerfield Head Office to explain that my card had been cloned and that I had only used their shop and the Esso garage. I emphasised that I did not know where the card had been cloned, but that I thought they may like to know. They were completely dis-interested and told me that they could not possibly discuss this issue with them. They would only discuss the issue if Natwest contacted them directly. This, to me, just sums up Somerfield !!! I then contacted Esso head Office and had the same discussion. They could not have been more different, and helpful. The lady in Customer Services took my name and contact number and assured me that the Area Manager would contact me. Sure enough - within a few hours the Area Manager rang me and was quite happy to discuss my concerns. He told me that ESSO take these issues very seriously, and that they know that Petrol Stations are real targets for this sort of crime. He explained to me that he had already rung the Station Manager to check that he had been running his weekly checks. Esso carry out Weekly Checks on their Swipe machines, checking that the clips on the machine have not been broken or tampered with. He also explained that he would be visiting the Service Station this coming Friday, to discuss with the Manager and carry out the same checks. I achieved this by ringing the phone number found on the ESSO Webpage (Customer Services).
