Thank you both so much for your replies. I am going to have the ceilings skimmed instead, just to be on the safe side.

After having water problems from my upstairs neighbours, which resulted in thick paint pealing from my artex ceiling, I had the ceiling skimmed over. All they do is put a type of glue over the existing paint and skim over it.

Luckily for me it was part of an insurance claim, but sounds like it may be the cheapest and easiest way to sort it.

It looks much better than the Artex.

Did you get our PM that we sent the other day regarding hall hire?
Best regards

Have checked Wikipedia and it confirms that until the mid-1980s Artex was made with White Asbestos. All of Forestdale was built before then. Perfectly safe if left in place but removal comes under Asbestos Licencing Regulations 2006. Would be easier to put another piece of plasterboard underneath (though you loose a bit of height) and I remember seeing and advert for a Polifila product you can use to smoothen Artexe'd surfaces.

 URGENT ENQUIRY ABOUT ARTEX
« Result #6 on Sept 15, 2009, 2:02pm »

Hi everyone

Does anyone know if the artex at Inglewood contains asbestos?

I'm looking to do some urgent home improvements this weekend but can't touch the ceilings until I know for sure if it contains asbestos or not.

If not, does anyone know who I can contact to find out?

Thanks

Becky

 Hire of Hall
« Result #7 on Sept 14, 2009, 10:46am »

Stagecoach Theatre Arts, the performing arts school for young people, operates out of Croydon High School on Saturdays. Due to demand we are looking for a Hall or large space to hire on Saturdays to expand. The age group is 4 to 8 year olds and the time would be an hour and a half.
You can email or ring on 0208995 1334.
Sincerely,
Mike Graves

The way in which they behave is disgusting and the school should be responsible for the students during the time in which the students are in their care.

I wish they would close the place down. during the holidays there has been hardly any litter around and it has been a pleasure walking around the area.

I wonder if the community officers would be able to patrol around a bit more. The council could make a lot of money out fines for the littering.

My upstairs neighbour and I also had problems over what was probably that same weekend. It got sorted a few days later, but we had to log separate calls with BT and they treated them as separate incidents.

Telephone cable and electric cable are a favourite of thieves for their resale value.

Croydon Advertiser said it was attempted cable theft. They must be pretty desperate (or thick) to go for telephone wire ....
